In the world of kasuri weaving, indigo has always been the dominant color. Red-ground kasuri was technically difficult to produce and was made in far smaller quantities — even in its own era. This piece features an allover pattern of geometric and floral kasuri motifs on a deep red-to-crimson ground, with a purple lining that reflects the refined aesthetic sensibility of its maker. Cotton, 100%. Estimated Showa early-to-mid period (1920s–1950s).

This kimono was not made in a factory. It was sewn by hand — most likely by a mother or grandmother, in an ordinary home, for someone she loved.
