This is not a jacket that was designed. It was built from necessity — from whatever fabric was at hand.

Scraps of kasuri. Strips of stripe. Fragments of floral cotton. A patch of shibori. Pieces of plain indigo. Each one stitched together by hand, reinforced with sashiko, and worn into the fields. This is boro — the Japanese tradition of mending and reusing cloth until nothing is wasted. And this noragi is one of the most extraordinary examples we have ever found.

No two panels match. No two textures are the same. The front is a patchwork of at least eight different fabrics. The back reveals even more. The sashiko stitching runs across every seam, holding decades of repair together. This is not a garment made for aesthetics — and yet it is one of the most visually striking pieces in Japan vintage.

Boro noragi of this quality are disappearing. Western collectors, slow fashion communities, and Japan vintage buyers have driven demand far beyond supply. When a piece like this surfaces, it does not stay available for long.

Wear it over a white tee on a cool morning. Drape it over linen in summer. Hang it on the wall. However you use it — it carries a history that cannot be reproduced.

Dirt, fraying, fabric peeling, and thread unraveling in places — all consistent with the age and use of this piece. These are not flaws. They are the record of a life lived in this garment.
Washed twice before shipping. A faint antique scent may remain. Damage or odor that occurs after washing or wearing is not eligible for refund or exchange. All sales final. Please review all images carefully before ordering.
