Hideo Yamane started sewing denim with a single sewing machine.
He refused mass production. He sourced selvedge fabric.
And he painted the seagull mark on every single pair — by hand.

The brand was not yet called "EVISU."
It was "EVIS."
This is the story from before the world knew its name.

The Era When Japanese Denim Moved the World

In the 1990s, the Japanese vintage denim scene captured the attention of collectors worldwide.
Beyond Levi's reproductions, the demand for Japanese denim with its own philosophy has never faded.

EVISU is now a global streetwear brand with presence in Paris, New York, and Tokyo.
But its origin lies in this "EVIS" era.

What collectors seek is the raw, unrefined earliest period — before the logo was polished.
When the hand-painted seagull still trembled on the fabric.

About This Piece

This is an ultra-early lot bearing the "EVIS / STYLE CRAFT & CO." house tag.
Pieces carrying the "EVIS" tag — as opposed to the later "EVISU" — are exceptionally scarce and rarely surface for sale.

This piece carries all the hallmarks of the first era:
