Quiet Geometry, Woven into Everyday Life
This is an authentic noragi (Japanese rural work jacket) from the mid-Showa era (circa 1950s–1960s). Crafted from indigo-dyed cotton and hand-sewn in a private household, it was made not for mass production, but for real work — built on a foundation of practicality and durability that still speaks clearly today.
A Rare Kasuri Composition
What sets this piece apart is its exceptional ikat (kasuri) pattern. At the center sits a traditional igeta kasuri (well-frame ikat), surrounded by an irregular, repeating geometric motif rarely seen in standard kasuri weaving. The result is a quietly striking rhythm — understated, yet impossible to forget.
Condition & Provenance
Sourced from the Tohoku region of Japan, this piece shows relatively light wear for its age. Rather than a textile already fully "finished" by time, this is a garment you can continue to shape — deepening in character with every wash and every wear.
We have laundered this piece twice in-house. Please note that, as with all vintage textiles, a faint aged scent may remain. This is inherent to antique fabric and is not considered a defect.
How to Wear It
Originally designed as workwear, the noragi translates effortlessly into contemporary everyday dressing. Layer it over a T-shirt, denim, or even a jersey — or wear it open like a summer aloha shirt. Its relaxed silhouette and miyatsuguchi (side-body openings) allow for natural, unrestricted movement.
For Those Who Choose Slow Fashion
This piece is for those who believe clothing should be lived in, not just consumed. If you value slow fashion, slow living, and the quiet craft of handmade things — this noragi will grow with you, softening and deepening with the rhythm of your daily life.
