This is a set of unused cotton tanmono fabric, woven in Japan around the Showa era and preserved without ever being tailored into garments.
The fabrics were kept as deadstock, showing no signs of cutting or use.
These tanmono were not produced to follow trends or decorative intentions, but were woven for everyday life and practical use at the time.
It is precisely in this ordinariness that the essence of what is now called “Japan Vintage” resides.
Because they remain unused, the original texture and character of the fabric can be appreciated as it is.
Suitable not only for tailoring kimono, but also for handmade projects, remaking, and creative textile use, these fabrics are versatile and unrestricted in application—one of the defining qualities of tanmono.
Though they are materials that have passed through time, they can still be used freely with a contemporary sensibility.
That, we believe, is the greatest value of this fabric set.
