In Showa-era Japan, futons were made for the household. Someone chose the cloth, threaded a needle, and stitched the cover that would hold the family’s rest through the seasons. This black-ground check pattern was born from that quiet, nameless daily life, and carried decades of use within its weave.

When its life as a futon cover came to an end, it was carefully unstitched and released back into the world as a single piece of cloth. There are holes, stains, and missing stitches. Each one is proof that this fabric was truly lived with.
