This futon cover (futon-gawa) was carefully deconstructed by hand, and now the cotton has returned to its next chapter as an unstitched piece of vintage Japanese fabric.

There are holes, fading, missing stitches, and loose threads. What the mingei philosopher Sōetsu Yanagi called "the beauty of use" is here in full: the dignity that only comes from a life fully lived.
