A futon cover (布団皮, futon-gawa) is the large outer cotton shell that wraps a traditional Japanese futon. Long before upcycling became a trend, Japanese households routinely pieced together worn kimono fabric, remnants, and offcuts to create these covers — not out of necessity alone, but out of a deep respect for cloth and the hands that made it. This two-panel crazy-pattern piece is a rare and beautiful example of that mingei spirit made tangible.
