Nobody set out to make a work of art here. Someone in mid-Showa Japan had a pile of worn cotton, cloth believed to have come from yukata (light summer kimono) and tenugui (thin cotton hand towels), and rather than throw any of it away they sewed it into one large cloth. The result is roughly 158 by 157 cm, soft to the touch, and patterned differently on each side.
That instinct, using everything until nothing is left, is the same one behind boro, and it is the reason cloth like this is now collected abroad. Textile enthusiasts in Europe and North America describe these pieces as beautiful records of ordinary Japanese life, and use them as interior accents and as material for fashion work. What makes them scarce is simple: they were never products. They were household solutions, made once, for one home.
Use it as a tablecloth, a sofa cover, or a wall hanging, where the mismatched patterns do the work of a painting. It is also excellent material for a remake project, with enough surface area for a jacket, a bag, or several smaller pieces.
One piece only. This is a genuine vintage textile, and no second example exists. Once it is gone, it will not return to the store.

There are pinholes and stains present. As this is a vintage item, please refrain from purchasing if you are not comfortable with such characteristics.
The item has been washed twice by us. It has a typical vintage fabric smell. Please understand that refunds or exchanges will not be accepted due to damage or odour returning after washing or use.
The cloth will be shipped compressed, which may cause wrinkles.
