This is a textile that was used in everyday life, repaired whenever it became damaged, and used for as long as possible. Each repair mark that remains is also a record of the lives and handwork of that time. As times have changed, Japanese boro has come to be appreciated around the world as something beautiful.

This is a vintage boro textile made from cotton futon-cover fabric, estimated to date from the Taisho to early Showa period. It features a checkered pattern, with multiple repair patches, tears, fraying, missing stitches, and weakened areas across the fabric.

In recent years, interest in Japanese vintage fabric and Japanese boro fabric has grown overseas. For Western vintage buyers, collectors, and textile artists, Japanese boro is not simply old cloth. It is a one-of-a-kind textile carrying the history of having been used and repaired. The variations in colour, layers of repairs, and irregularities of handwork are valued.

Unlike fast fashion, this material reflects the idea of slow fashion: using something for a long time, repairing it, and giving it life in another form. It can be used for patchwork, bags, garments, small accessories, tapestries, interior decoration, and other textile projects. Please add backing or reinforcement to weakened or damaged areas according to your intended use.

A textile with the same checkered pattern, colour combinations, and repair marks will never appear again. Only one piece is available. This textile is recommended for those who appreciate the character of boro, including the damage and imperfections that come with its history.

Condition

There are stains, tears, missing areas, repair patches, missing stitches, and fraying.

This textile has been washed twice by us. It retains a characteristic antique textile scent. Any damage or return of the scent resulting from washing or wearing after purchase will not be eligible for a refund or exchange. Please order only if you fully understand and accept these conditions.

The textile will be compressed for shipping, so wrinkles may occur.
