This vintage cotton cloth was made by unpicking a futon cover from the Mid-Showa period. In an ordinary Japanese household, a used futon cover could be taken apart and returned to the family as material rather than thrown away. That is how this piece arrived here: not as new fabric, but as a textile with a previous life already woven into it.

The yellow-based checkered pattern gives a soft, warm impression, while years of washing and use have given the cotton a supple feel that modern fabric cannot replicate. Its gentle colour and quiet texture carry the atmosphere of Showa-era daily life without becoming nostalgic decoration.
