This is antique Japanese cotton fabric, carefully unstitched from a futon cover that was used daily in a Showa-era household. The natural fade along the upper section is not a printed effect or artificial ageing. It is decades of domestic life absorbed into the cloth.

Because it is solid, with no print competing for attention, this fabric works with almost everything. Use it as a base cloth for patchwork or boro repair, as lining for a bag or jacket, or as the foundation of a slow-fashion garment. At 205 × 100 cm, it offers enough surface for a serious project while keeping the quiet presence of a single, lived-in textile.

Japanese vintage textiles, especially boro and everyday working cloth from the Showa period, are increasingly recognized in Europe and North America. Collectors, textile artists, and makers value these fabrics not only for their colour and texture, but for the culture of repair and reuse they carry. Solid vintage cotton in this scale is genuinely difficult to source.

Condition

Natural fade and colour variation from decades of use. Pinholes are present. There are no structural issues noted. Please press with an iron to smooth wrinkles.

Hand-washed twice before shipping. A faint vintage scent may remain, which is characteristic of aged cloth. Further washing or use may cause changes in colour or scent; these are not grounds for return or exchange. All sales are final.

The item will be shipped compressed, so some wrinkling may occur in transit. Colour may appear slightly different depending on your monitor settings.
