A Showa-era fukuro obi woven with gold and silver thread across an all-over floral pattern. Fukuro obi — literally "bag obi" — are the formal register of Japanese obi construction: double-layered, woven with metallic thread, used for the most significant occasions. This one is 394 cm long and 29.5 cm wide, with gold and silver threads that shift in expression depending on the angle of light.

Japanese vintage textiles with metallic thread weaving are increasingly collected outside Japan — for interior display, as textile art, or as raw material for contemporary design projects. Pieces of this construction and length in good enough condition to be meaningful are not abundant. This is one piece.
