■ PRODUCT DETAILS ■

Era: Showa period
Material: Aizu Paulownia (Kiri) wood — unfinished natural surface

Crafted from Aizu Kiri, the most prized paulownia wood in Japan, grown in the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture — long celebrated as the country's finest source of this exceptional timber.

The extreme seasonal temperature swings of Aizu produce wood with an exceptionally fine, low-density grain — making it among the lightest of all paulownia, and one of the lightest woods used in traditional Japanese footwear. The unfinished surface preserves the wood's natural ability to absorb and release moisture, keeping feet cool and dry even when worn barefoot — comfortable in both summer and winter.

【 STYLING 】

The black fabric hanao (thong strap) pairs effortlessly with any aesthetic.

Wear them with yukata, jinbei, or samue for a classic Japanese look — or style them with denim, linen trousers, or wide-leg pants for an East-meets-West fusion that feels both grounded and contemporary.

For those drawn to Japanese workwear aesthetics, geta pair beautifully with noragi — the traditional field jackets worn by Japanese farmers and craftspeople. The combination is earthy, considered, and entirely its own — where Japan's labor heritage meets modern slow fashion sensibility.

Also in our collection — another pair of vintage Showa-era geta, each with its own character and history:

【 GETA & WELLNESS 】

Wearing geta naturally engages the toes — gripping the hanao with each step strengthens the intrinsic foot muscles that modern footwear tends to neglect. Regular wear is said to improve weight distribution, postural alignment, and balance. The slight instability of the two-tooth (nimaiba) sole also activates the core, turning an everyday walk into quiet, intentional movement. A simple shift in footwear. A different relationship with the ground beneath you.

These are for those who appreciate the beauty of things that have lived a life. If you are looking for new or pristine condition, these are not for you.

Please note: items are sold as-is. No cleaning or restoration has been performed. A natural aged scent is present, as is typical with vintage Japanese goods. All sales are final — no returns or exchanges. Please read carefully before ordering.
