This vintage Japanese cotton umanori hakama, or riding-style divided trousers, was tailored for a child during the Early Showa period, approximately the 1920s to 1930s. It was originally worn as everyday clothing in a rural Japanese household and has survived as a remarkably uncommon textile object.

The small scale means it is not suitable for practical wear today. Its value is in the cotton, construction, and history: a child-sized garment made for real life, now ready to become part of a new creative project.

Condition

The back panel contains a cardboard-like material that may be bent or warped. It appears to have been glued rather than sewn, and the glue has peeled so the cardboard is visible.

Fading and wear are present. The item has been washed twice by us and retains a characteristic vintage scent. Please do not purchase if you are not comfortable with imperfections in vintage materials. Refunds or exchanges will not be accepted for damage or odor returning after washing or use.

The item will be shipped compressed, so wrinkles may occur.
