Description

This is a cotton noragi made in the early to mid Showa period, originally used in rural farming communities in Japan.

The most distinctive feature of this piece is the plain indigo-dyed fabric used on the reverse side.
While the exterior maintains a simple, utilitarian appearance, the indigo tone that quietly reveals itself only on the inside reflects the balance of aesthetic sensibility and practicality held by everyday people of the time.

This indigo was not chosen to be shown, but to be used continuously.
That philosophy itself defines the true value of this noragi.

Noragi were often not made by professional craftsmen, but instead altered and repaired within the household as they were worn over many years.
As a result, each piece has individual differences in construction, proportions, and stitching, which are considered part of its character.

Made of cotton, it is lightweight and comfortable for daily wear, and can be naturally incorporated into modern styling.
It can be worn over a T-shirt or denim, or layered as an inner garment, allowing for styling that does not lean too heavily toward traditional Japanese dress.

In addition to its value as a garment history reference, noragi are also highly regarded as materials for upcycling and remake projects.
