Noragi were everyday rural garments worn for field work, rice farming, and other forms of labor. They supported the people who worked in them and lived close to the land.
Made only for practical use, worn until they began to deteriorate, and gradually disappearing from everyday life, garments like this were never expected to be valued as they are today.
This noragi was made around the early to mid-Showa period. The front is made from deep indigo-dyed striped cotton. The reverse side uses a completely different textile in pink and blue, creating a striking contrast with the indigo front.
The first image shows the reverse side.
The white lines radiating from the center of the textile look like fireworks or large flowers in bloom. Set against fine stripes, this unusual design is the defining feature of the piece. The pattern changes in appearance from the sleeves to the body, creating a different impression as the garment moves and is worn.
Noragi with this connection to farming, labor, and rural Japanese life are receiving increasing attention in the international Japanese vintage market. This is a one-of-a-kind garment with the presence and character of slow fashion, far removed from the uniformity of fast fashion. It is a meaningful piece for those drawn to old houses, weekend farming, slow living, and clothing made to be worn for a long time.
Made from soft cotton, it can be worn as a lightweight layer in spring and summer, or as an extra layer in air-conditioned spaces. The textile stands out over a simple white T-shirt and black trousers, while it also works beautifully over a dress or a pair of modern wide-leg pants.
A piece of Japanese rural clothing, once used in everyday life, brought into the present. No identical piece can exist. This is a truly one-of-a-kind garment.

Damage and repairs are present. The indigo-dyed outer fabric shows abrasions, fraying, loose threads, holes, and repair marks. The patterned cloth on the reverse side also has holes, fraying, and repair marks.
As a vintage garment, it may show weakened fabric, loose stitching, and changes in color caused by age. These characteristics are evidence that this noragi was actually used in everyday life, something new clothing cannot reproduce. Please review the images carefully and purchase only if you are comfortable with vintage textiles and old garments.
The garment will be folded and compressed for shipping, so wrinkles may occur.
Please do not order if you are not comfortable with the characteristics of old garments.
This garment has been washed twice by us. It has the characteristic odor of an old textile. If damage or odor returns as a result of washing or wearing after purchase, it will not be eligible for a refund or exchange. Please order only if you understand and accept these conditions.
