■ Kasuri — The Ikat of Rural Japan

Kasuri is not a pattern you print.
It is woven in — thread by thread, before the cloth even exists.
Each warp and weft is resist-dyed in precise intervals,
then woven together so the blurred, floating motifs emerge from the structure of the fabric itself.

Choosing kasuri for a work jacket was not common.
It meant the maker valued beauty even in labor.
Even in the ordinary.
