Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force does not export its uniforms. They are issued, worn, and retired within a closed system — which is exactly why they almost never appear on the global vintage market.
The JGSDF Type 2 camouflage pattern was introduced in 1992 and has since been phased out in favor of the newer Type 3. That transition is still ongoing — and as it progresses, authentic Type 2 pieces are quietly disappearing. This jacket is one of them.
It is not a reproduction. It is not a fashion reinterpretation. It is the real thing: a genuine Japanese military-issue jacket with a sleeve pocket, chest pockets, waist adjustment tabs, back action pleats, and ventilation eyelets — functional details that most military surplus from other countries simply do not have. The forest camouflage pattern is distinctly Japanese, immediately recognizable to collectors, and virtually impossible to find outside Japan.
