Bring vintage Japanese clothing into your everyday wardrobe.
This late Showa men’s haori is a traditional Japanese open-front jacket originally worn over a kimono. You don’t need a full kimono outfit to enjoy it: a T-shirt and your usual trousers are a natural starting point.
Its distinctive feature is the shorter length.
Measuring 65 cm (25.6 in) from the base of the back collar to the hem, it balances a roomy body and generous sleeves with a neat, shorter cut. The proportions give it a charming character while making it easy to wear with contemporary clothing.
The understated outer fabric carries a fine pattern.
Quiet from a distance, the pattern reveals itself as you look closer. Over a plain white T-shirt, it adds texture and interest without relying on a bold motif.
Inside, a different world unfolds.
Mountains, pine trees, buildings and people crossing a bridge appear alongside Japanese calligraphy on a pale blue-gray ground. The small landscape scenes offer something to discover each time you look at the lining.
Pause over it before putting the jacket on, or enjoy it again when you take it off and hang it up. Mostly hidden while worn, it is a detail to enjoy for yourself.
Perhaps you like the shorter length.
Perhaps the fine pattern catches your eye.
Perhaps you want to spend a little longer looking at the landscapes inside.
A particular detail you love can be the starting point for making an old garment part of your life today.
Haori are attracting interest among Japanese vintage enthusiasts in Europe and North America. Their appeal is not limited to admiring historical clothing: these designs can still be worn and enjoyed with the clothes already in your wardrobe.
Keeping existing clothing in use and passing it on to its next wearer gives it a continuing place in everyday life.
Choosing a piece you love and wearing it over time is a personal way to embrace slow fashion and a more sustainable wardrobe.

Styling Suggestions
Wear it over a white T-shirt and dark trousers to bring out the fine pattern and generous sleeve shape.
It also pairs well with denim or wide-leg trousers. The shorter length balances fuller bottoms without requiring a traditional Japanese outfit.
Enjoy it as another jacket in your everyday wardrobe.
