Sashiko stitching runs across the entire body of this noragi — row after row of hand-sewn running stitch in deep indigo cotton. Not decorative. Structural. Someone reinforced this jacket to make it last longer, to keep working in it. That intention is still visible in every stitch.

Taisho to early Showa era (approx. 1910s–1930s). Short-sleeved construction for ease of movement in the field. The lining is plain indigo cotton — itself a rare material at this age. Fully cotton throughout, at a time when cotton was a valued resource. The indigo will continue to fade with wear, deepening in character with each use.

In the global boro and Japan vintage workwear market, sashiko noragi of this age and construction are among the most sought-after pieces. Collectors and slow-fashion communities recognize what this represents: a garment made to be repaired, not replaced.

Condition

Some sashiko threads are fraying or protruding in places. The lining fabric inside the sleeve is not fully sewn down and is fraying at the edge — however, the sashiko threads running across it prevent the fraying from spreading below the stitched areas.
