Contrast defines this Japanese vintage noragi jacket. The outer fabric is dark striped cotton with red, gray, and pale lines. When the jacket opens, a salmon-pink cotton lining appears inside, adding an unexpected flash of color to this practical workwear garment.
The Miyatsuguchi, the underarm opening, carries a substantial boro repair. Another boro repair remains beside the collar. Fraying, loose threads, worn areas, and uneven repairs are all visible. These are not decorative details added later. They are traces of a garment that was repaired and kept in use rather than discarded.
Noragi were worn as practical workwear for farming and everyday labor in Japan. This piece brings that history into a modern wardrobe through its relaxed shape, soft worn cotton, and unmistakable signs of care. The fabric has lost its original stiffness and developed a soft, airy feel that cannot be recreated by a new garment.
This is for someone looking beyond fast fashion and perfectly uniform clothing. It will appeal to collectors of Japanese vintage, boro, and traditional workwear, as well as anyone drawn to old-house living, gardening, weekend garden work, handmade objects, and a slower relationship with clothing.
Wear it over a white T-shirt with dark trousers to bring out the striped cotton and black front edging. It also works naturally with loose work pants or monpe trousers. In spring and autumn, it is an easy layer for cool mornings and evenings. In summer, it can be worn as a light outer layer or used indoors when air conditioning makes your shoulders and arms feel cold.
It suits time spent in an old house, working in the garden, visiting a local market or gallery, travelling, or simply adding character to everyday clothing. It is a one-of-a-kind piece for someone who wants a layer with history instead of another ordinary jacket.
The hat, T-shirt, trousers, and sandals shown in the model photographs are not included. This listing is for the noragi jacket only.
