The asanoha pattern — interlocking hexagons that read as stylized hemp leaves — has appeared on Japanese textiles since the Heian period. It was used on children's clothing because hemp grows fast and straight; the pattern carried a wish for healthy growth. On a tenugui, it means something simpler: a traditional geometric that holds up across centuries because the geometry is correct.

This one is made in Japan by Miyamoto Towel, 100% cotton, navy on white. Tenugui are lightweight and quick-drying by design — they work as hand towels, but also as wrapping cloth, a headband, a wall hanging, or whatever a flat piece of well-printed cotton can be made into.
