The M-37 was the U.S. Army's standard wool shirt through the Second World War and into the early postwar years. This one carries a stencil above the front pocket — original military issue markings that almost never survive intact. The wool has softened over eight decades into something that cannot be replicated. No reproduction gets this right. Time does.

The silhouette is clean: no epaulettes, straight collar, a cut that works as a shirt or a lightweight jacket. The global market for authenticated American military vintage continues to rise, and pieces with surviving provenance details like this stencil are becoming genuinely hard to find.

■ Condition

  • Small holes and traces where patches were removed in some areas
  • Discoloration around the neckline
  • Left chest flap has a sewing defect; one button replaced, buttonhole and button position misaligned
  • Inner gas flap has been cut off and is missing
  • Back collar button missing
  • Sleeve placket area has been sewn shut (whether altered or repaired is unclear)
