This Japanese vintage fabric dates from the Early Showa period, approximately the 1930s. Handwoven cotton panels combine a deep indigo checked pattern with a contrasting striped weave, creating a layered textile with quiet visual strength.

The cloth was originally used as a household futon cover. After its years as bedding, it was carefully unstitched and preserved as a single textile rather than discarded. Small hand repairs, overlapping fabrics, and stitch marks remain as evidence of how the original household extended the life of its materials.

Natural fading, holes, wear, staining, and patchwork repairs are part of the fabric's one-of-a-kind character. The softened indigo and hand-mended seams are not manufactured effects; they are the result of use, care, and time.
