A furoshiki is a square cloth used in Japan to wrap, carry, and protect objects. This one was made in the late Showa era, around the 1970s–80s, and has survived as unused deadstock.

The soft, lightweight cotton has a deep burgundy ground decorated with refined white botanical motifs inspired by traditional Japanese family crests, or kamon. It is a pattern with the quiet formality of a household textile, but enough character to work beautifully in a contemporary room or wardrobe.

Use it traditionally for wrapping, or let it become a table cover, wall hanging, fashion accessory, or distinctive material for sewing and craft projects. Unlike newly printed fabric, this piece brings the specific colour and design language of its period with it.
