Some textiles carry their history in a family crest. This one carries it in the sun.

This large mid-Showa Japanese furoshiki is a durable cotton wrapping cloth, approximately 127 × 114 cm. Along the edge, a retro kanji logo reading “Gunze Chihou Renrakukai” adds a specific connection to the working and organizational life of Showa-era Japan. It is not a generic pattern. It belonged to a particular time, place, and use.

The surface shows strong sun-fading and softened tones from years of exposure and handling. That uneven colour is not a finish applied at the factory. It is the record of time, and the reason this cloth has an atmosphere that new fabric cannot reproduce.

A furoshiki is used in Japan to wrap and carry objects, but this one can also become a wall hanging, table cover, furniture throw, or a sturdy starting point for a tote bag, cushion cover, or other handmade project.
