This is a cotton noragi jacket dyed in traditional indigo with kasuri patterns. It was crafted around the mid-Showa period and was widely worn as everyday workwear in rural Japanese villages.

Noragi were designed for ease of movement during farming and household work, and each piece was traditionally hand-sewn in individual households. The sturdy cotton fabric was meant to last; when torn, the garment would often be patched or reinforced with sashiko stitching, reflecting a combination of practical knowledge and aesthetic sensibility. This history is embodied in this piece.

In recent years, such noragi have gained high recognition overseas and attract attention from fashion enthusiasts and collectors worldwide as part of Japanese vintage culture.

Because each piece retains unique textures and traces of handwork, independent of fast-moving trends, it appeals strongly to those seeking individuality. Originally created as workwear, it is highly functional, and today it is popular to wear it casually like a shirt or jacket.
