This pair of indigo cotton momohiki (traditional Japanese workwear pants) dates back to the mid-Showa period.
The narrow, tapered hem allows for ease of movement—an essential feature for everyday workwear in Japan during that era.

Originally developed for farming and mountain labor, momohiki belong to the same category of “Japanese workwear” as noragi and yamabakama.
They were also occasionally worn for local festivals or as daily attire, with small regional differences in design and construction.

Made from plain-dyed indigo cotton, this piece has a deep, rich hue and a soft texture that comes only with age and use.
The subtle fading and wear reflect the passage of time and the life of its former owner.

Today, momohiki can be styled casually with a T-shirt or shirt—bringing the quiet beauty of indigo and the essence of Japanese clothing culture into modern daily wear.
It exudes a calm, refined presence while preserving the authentic charm of traditional work garments such as noragiand yamabakama.

Unlike modern pants with a fixed waistband, momohiki are wrapped and tied with strings.
They do not have defined waist or inseam measurements, so please refer to the thigh and hem width for fit guidance.
Traditionally, momohiki are worn tightly along the leg line rather than loosely.
We recommend researching how to properly wear them before use.

Condition

Visible fading consistent with age.
Please refrain from purchasing if you are not familiar with vintage or antique textiles.

This item has been washed twice by us, but it retains a natural vintage scent typical of old Japanese garments.
Due to the nature of vintage clothing, we cannot accept returns or exchanges for issues such as odor or additional fading after washing or wearing.
