This is a solid cotton momohiki trousers, hand-sewn during the mid-Showa period. Momohiki have been widely used since the Edo period as workwear (noragi) for farming and daily labor, and they also played an important role as garments worn for festivals and ceremonial events. The tight, body-fitting silhouette minimizes excess fabric and allows free movement, increasing work efficiency. The adjustable tie-string construction provides flexibility for various body sizes and uses, reflecting practical wisdom in everyday life of the past.

The texture of the cotton and the hand-stitched details carry a depth of character that modern clothing cannot replicate. As a physical artifact with cultural and historical value, it allows you to feel the atmosphere of the era through touch. Recommended for those who appreciate traditional Japanese clothing culture and value the historical background of noragi workwear.

Unlike modern pants with a fixed waistband, momohiki wrap around the body and are adjusted with ties. Since the concepts of waist or inseam do not apply, please refer mainly to thigh width and hem width. They are meant to be worn tightly along the natural leg line rather than loose or oversized. For detailed wearing instructions, please research independently.

Condition

There are tears and fraying due to age.
Please refrain from purchasing if you are unfamiliar with vintage textiles.
Washed twice at our studio. Vintage odor may remain. Any damage or changes after washing or wearing will not be eligible for return or exchange.
