This is a Noragi, a traditional Japanese farmer’s work jacket once worn in rural villages across the country.

This particular piece is constructed with vertical stripes on both the outer and inner layers—an extremely rare feature—as most Noragi of this kind use plain fabric for the lining. The collar is made from hand-dyed indigo cotton, adding a subtle depth to its overall expression.

The reverse side features visible hand-stitched Boro repairs, which tell of a time when fabric was carefully mended and cherished. These repairs speak not of damage, but of continuity—layers of life woven into the cloth. This jacket is not simply old; it is a living memory of everyday existence.

■ Condition ■

This garment bears the marks of long use. The side slits are asymmetrical due to missing stitching, and there are areas of fabric wear, fraying, and small holes throughout. Multiple hand-sewn repairs can be seen on the reverse side, adding to its character as a genuine vintage piece.

It has been washed twice, but retains the subtle scent often found in antique textiles.
