Published in April 2000, this out-of-print Japanese interior book documents something that resists documentation: the way people actually live with antiques. Not curated showrooms. Personal spaces — ceramics on shelves, textiles on chairs, wooden furniture worn to a specific color by decades of use. The photographers went into these rooms and recorded them as they were.
Over 100 pages of full-color photographs, detailed captions in Japanese, and a perspective on domestic space that the wabi-sabi revival has made newly relevant to readers outside Japan. The original print run ended years ago. Physical copies continue to thin out.
